荷——是中国人非常喜爱的观赏和食用植物从而成为绘画主题;
荷叶——也常常被用来托或包食物;
这片荷叶——是我们从圆明园荷塘中摘取的。圆明园的荷塘是清朝皇帝康熙时期修建的。我们的工作室就在圆明园;
这片枯了的荷叶——具有更加起伏和优美的形态和更加凸显和清晰的脉络,我们用计算机技术将这种时间塑造出的特质固定保存了下来。自然的设计是无法模拟的,我们的设计原则是用尽量少的人为改动将它转化成一个托盘。因此,尽管物件的材质已用不锈钢来重新诠释,人们使用与观赏的本质上仍然是那一片荷。
The lotus plant is a favorite food of the Chinese people, and it is also a popular decorative plant. Because of this, it is a common drawing motif.
Lotus leaves are also used to wrap or serve food.
This lotus leaf was picked from the lotus pond of The Old Summer Palace which was built during the Kangxi period of Qing dynasty, and where our office is also located.
The special qualities of the withered lotus leaf, with its shape more sinuous and its veins more prominent, are preserved through computer technologies. The natural design is impossible to copy, but our design principle is to transform it into a tray with minimal changes. Therefore, though the material has been replaced and reinterpreted with stainless steel, the lotus leaf's essence is still what people use and appreciate.

一分为二 紫砂壶|Split into Two – Purple Clay Teapots
紫砂壶——是中国人情有独钟的茗品器皿。这件本来与茶相伴,古朴、自然的日常用具这些年几乎被穷尽为各种千奇百态的造型,或写实,或传统。两年前开始这件棘手的设计,花了不少时间,首先无视那个挥之不去的经典“壶”形。作为建筑史,我们还是擅长从功能入手突破。试图将现代生活方式植入传统紫砂壶的设计,我们将一壶两段式一分为二,由上段的紫砂和下段的玻璃两种材料分而处之,把沏茶的过程分为:泡、滤、品三部曲。
泡——把茶叶泡在带有内置紫砂茶滤的无壶嘴紫砂壶里——传统的材料,现代的体形,味道依旧;
滤——将传统的由壶嘴倒茶改为轻抬茶滤直接将茶水滤入下面的玻璃茶海——将两种材料贯通一气,方便可控,特别照顾讲究“火候”的茶人;
品——茶的品相在玻璃茶海里一览无遗,双层的玻璃壶壁既隔热又精致,只有小小的玻璃壶嘴在向传统的紫砂壶致敬。
Purple Clay(Zisha) Teapots have always be a soft spot for Chinese tea lovers. In recently years this common utensil has been adapted into many forms, some realistic, some traditional. We started to design this rather tricky item two years ago and spent a long time only to break away from the conventional “teapot” shape. As architects we are good at making breakthrough with a functional approach. In an attempt to incorporate modern lifestyle into traditional Purple Clay Teapot design, we split the pot into two parts: the top is made of Purple Clay and the bottom is made of glass. The tea making process has also been divided into three parts: brew, filter, taste.
Brew: Sink tealeaves into the Purple Clay filter inside the spout-less Purple Clay Teapot. Traditional material has taken on modern forms.
Filter: The traditional spout is replaced by a tealeaf filter that pours tea into the glass pot at the bottom. Two materials are combined to perfectly cater to the needs of those who are fastidious about the timing of tea-brewing.
Taste: Tea is visible through the double-layered glass pot that preserves temperature better. There is only a small galss spout that pays tribute to the traditional form of Purple Clay Teapot.
